Despite Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, refusing to support them, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has abandoned their plans to begin their presidential campaign on September 28.

After a lengthy meeting in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Wike, Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, Prof. Jerry Gana, Chief Bode George, and other notable members of the Atiku campaign committee announced their resignations, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

They claimed that the reason for their action was the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, who refused to quit from his post.

The situation forced the PDP National Working Committee to call an emergency meeting where decisions were made and the options available to the party were discussed.

Debo Ologunagba, the party’s national publicity secretary, explained the party’s choice to Punch by stating that all of its programs will be carried out as scheduled and that there were no plans to halt them for any reason.

The image-maker emphasized the value of always following the rules while characterizing the PDP as a party committed to maintaining law and order.

“The constitution of our party is supreme and the conduct of our affairs must align with it. Again, we are a party with tremendous respect for the law. So, all we have set out to do will take place as there is no reason whatsoever to do otherwise,” he added.
