Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has informed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, that Atiku can run unopposed in the upcoming general elections.
Following the conclusion of the party’s presidential primary, there has been a crisis inside the main opposition party.
With a total of 371 votes, Atiku defeated Wike, his closest rival, to become the PDP’s presidential candidate for the general election of 2023. Wike received 237 votes.
Specifically, Atiku Abubakar scored 371, Nyesom Wike scored 237, Bukola Saraki scored 70, Udom Emmanuel scored 38, Balla Mohammed scored 20, Pius Anyim scored 14, Sam Ohabunwa scored 1, and Olivia Tariela scored 1. Twelve votes were invalid.
Wike and his group, which includes some governors from the South, believe they were denied the presidential ticket and just withdrew from Atiku’s campaign.
Following their decision to fire the campaign team, some party members assert that Wike may even decide to quit the organization if he so chooses, saying Atiku can win without the Rivers Governor.
And on Friday, Wike told reporters in Port Harcourt, “Yes, I agree. Atiku doesn’t need me. In the other states, they can live without me, but not in Rivers State.
