Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, is accused of striking a contract in secret with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to fight against the PDP in the 2023 presidential elections, according to the national youth vanguard, a young organization inside the PDP.

The claim was made on Friday in a statement given by Bala Aboki, the group’s national coordinator, following its meeting in Kano State.

The statement alleged that Wike has a tendency of consistently opposing the PDP National Chairmen for his own self-serving objectives and advised the party’s leadership to disregard the governor of Rivers State as they prepare for the 2023 elections.

It was also stated that Wike’s present demand that Iyorchia Ayu resign from his position as the PDP’s national chairman is just a diversion from his actual objectives to harm the party.

Further, Aboki claimed that Wike is not running for office on behalf of anyone but rather is preparing a smooth exit for himself after his term ends in 2023, which explains the pointless fuss he is making about the election.

“We have been made aware of an agreement entered into between the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the former Lagos State Governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to destroy the PDP from within in exchange for his protection when he leaves office in 2023,” the statement reads.

“Nigerians need to know that the concern of Governor Wike is not the interest of the South as been postulated by him and his friends, but a personal battle to cover up his misdemeanours.

Wike Accuses David Mark Of Denying Him PDP Presidential Ticket

“In the first instance, why is Governor Wike always at the forefront of championing the removal of party chairmen at any given opportunity? Recall that in 2016 after the loss of the PDP in the 2015 general elections, it was Governor Wike who orchestrated the installation of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as chairman of the party who nearly destabilized the party, except for the Supreme Court ruling of July 12, 2017.

“In the 2017 National Convention of the party, the same Governor Wike, denied Chief Bode George, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola and others from the South West from producing the National Chairmanship of the party when the PDP zoned the position to the south, and championed the installation of his brother, Prince Uche Secondus as Chairman of the party.

“Before Prince Secondus could complete his tenure, Governor Wike again moved for his removal in order to pave way for his personal and selfish interest of campaigning for a southern president and later installed Senator Iyorchia Ayu as Chairman of the party. Today, the same Governor is calling for the removal of Senator Ayu. Is he the only person in the PDP?”

The PDP youth vanguard urged the party’s leadership and the presidential candidate to disregard Wike and carry out their planned campaigns.

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has stated that he will back Atiku Abubakar for president of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), notwithstanding their differences.

During a live media interview with journalists on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Wike made the statement notwithstanding the ongoing conflict between his camp and the PDP.

When asked specifically which candidate for president in 2023 he thought should lead the nation, Wike responded that he was still a member of the PDP and that he still supported both his party and its nominee.

He pointed out that he can’t be in the PDP and be campaigning for the candidate of another political party.
