According to reports, Simon Lalong, the director general of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, has vowed to leave the organization.

There are rumors that the governor of Plateau State, Lalong, threatened to withdraw since the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, chose to nominate James Falake, a congressman from the Ikeja seat in the House of Representatives.

Prior to the general elections in 2023, Faleke’s selection as the campaign council’s Secretary has sparked discontent inside the party.

According to the source, the position was set aside for the area to appease the minority north, but since Lalong is from Plateau State, it was decided that the secretary should be transferred to Benue State, an important middle belt state.

Stakeholders thought that choosing a Christian from Benue State would help calm the opposition against the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the party. This was done in an effort to put an end to the controversy surrounding the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

According to information obtained, a governor from the North Central region asked George Akume, a former governor of Benue State, to submit the names and CVs of two candidates for Tinubu to consider for the job of secretary.

Without the approval of other parties, Faleke, a guy who represents Lagos State in the House of Representatives, was chosen.

According to a separate source, a former deputy governor of Nasarawa State and other party members begged him not to take the action, warning that doing so at this time would plunge the party into chaos.

There are accusations that other stakeholders have chosen to let Tinubu make his decision since their recommendations have not been taken into consideration because President Muhammadu Buhari has not responded to Tinubu’s activities.
