Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has been charged with pushing to serve as the running mate for Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, according to Muazu Magaji, a PDP head in Kano State.
Magaji claims that Wike pressured members of the committee formed to help Atiku choose a running mate.
Recall that the committee suggested Governors Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, and Governor Wike.

The committee, however, named Wike as the top candidate for the job, but Atiku selected Okowa as his running mate, a choice that has kept the party in disarray for the past few years.
Magaji asserted that contrary to what some have stated, Atiku did not promise Wike the vice presidential position during an interview on Channels TV on Thursday.
The former candidate for governor claimed that Governor Wike lobbied committee members to give him a higher score, adding that the Rivers State governor shouldn’t be trusted with significant positions in the nation.
Magaji said, “There is no evidence that Atiku promised Wike the vice presidency. The Vice President’s pick is a prerogative of the candidate, it’s a process. There was a process that was also rigged.

“One of the fears is this, if an individual will be going behind a structure and institution and rigging the system to get what he wants, then we cannot also trust the same individual as a principal actor on the commonwealth of the Nigerian people.
“I want to say clearly that when the committee was set up to screen candidates and make recommendations to the presidential candidate to pick his vice president, nobody gave the mandate of picking the vice president to any committee.
“What I meant when I said the process was rigged is this: the process turned out an individual who we later understand to have lobbied the committee to get his way.”
Speaking about Wike’s camp’s absence from the PDP campaign council’s launch, he claimed that Atiku is reaching out to members who feel mistreated.

He added that the demands made by Governor Wike’s camp are in violation of the party’s constitution.
Magaji claims that a person has engaged in conflict with three party chairs, adding that the same person also installed and ousted the party chairman.
Such a person, according to him, cannot be larger than the institution and the party.
