Days prior to the meeting, Atiku met with Governor Wike in Abuja to solicit his backing for the 2023 presidential election.

There have been rumors that the former vice president committed to back Wike’s bid for the presidency in 2027.

Discontent inside the party has resulted from the rumors, with Southerners airing their complaints on Atiku’s apparent choice.
