According to the Labour Party, the absence of both its chairman, Julius Abure, and presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was the cause of the delay in the announcement of its presidential campaign council.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the party still hasn’t published its campaign council weeks after the All Progressives Congress (PAC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did.

Abayomi Arabambi, the party’s national publicity secretary, said Thursday that the council won’t be made public until Obi and Abure return from their international vacation.

He claimed that the council’s inauguration could not take place without them and that the date of the inauguration could not be disclosed until they returned to the nation.

However, Arabambi revealed that the structure of the council is being reviewed.

He said, “The LP chairman and candidate are not around. They are currently attending rallies in the UK. No date can be taken for the unveiling of the PCC until the chairman and the candidate sit together. But we are still reviewing the list of nominees.”

Arabambi said he was unaware of claims that there are some controversial names in the composition of the council that is causing disagreement among members.

He said: “The party is not privy to that. But whatever the case may be, the matter will be brought before the NWC and I am sure it will be resolved.

“I also agree with you that sometimes the constitution of the campaign council often comes with pressure as every party member will clamour for inclusion in the list.”
