Nigerian Serial Robber With 68 Armed Robbery Records Nabbed In US

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has detained Charles Onwuemelie, a 29-year-old serial armed robber from Nigeria known as the “Blue Cloth Bandit”.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the suspect was detained on Wednesday in connection with 68 armed robberies that have taken place in the LA region since October 2021.

In light of the blue cloth that Onwuemelie used to conceal his firearm during the robberies that took place at gas stations, 7-11s, and Walmarts, Fox News reports that Onwuemelie was given the nickname “Blue Cloth Bandit” by the LAPD.

The statement read: “Since October of 2021, there have been a total of 68-armed business robberies attributed by investigators to the same suspect. The robberies have occurred throughout Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles. Investigators from RHD were assigned to investigate the 16 robberies that occurred inside City boundaries”

In response to the suspect’s most recent robbery attempt on September 23, investigators came up with a plan to use surveillance and carry out a search warrant.

The man pretended to shop at a store in a CCTV image that the LAPD made public before pulling out a gun that was wrapped in a blue cloth.

He may also be seen in the video donning blue gloves and a face-covering cap.

According to reports, police found a gun and other evidence at the scene of Onwuemelie’s most recent robbery that connected him to the crime.

Although authorities anticipate the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department to bring additional charges for a number of other robberies that reportedly took place within the county, the suspect has already been charged with 16 counts of a robbery that allegedly took place within LA city lines.
