In regards to its eight-month-old industrial action, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said on Friday that it would review the Appeal Court’s decision.

The Appeal Court mandated that the academic union retract its decision and immediately reopen all public universities across the nation during a hearing today.

The National Industrial Court’s earlier order is followed by the court’s decision.

However, in response to the new court decision, ASUU President Professor Emmanuel Osodeke stated that the union has not yet received an official notification of the Appeal Court’s decision.

He claims that after being officially informed of the decision, ASUU would analyze it and discuss its implications with legal counsel to decide how to proceed.

“We have not received the ruling, when we get it, we will review it with our lawyer and then we can take the next step”, Osodeke said.

Recall that the government and the ASUU were unable to strike a truce, thus the varsity staff union began taking industrial action in February 2022.

On September 11, the current administration then brought ASUU before the National Industrial Court.
On September 24, the court issued an order requiring the striking lecturers to resume instruction while talks with the Federal Government are ongoing.

Angered by the decision, the union went to the appellate court to challenge it.
