Peter Obi In Harvard As Chimamanda Adichie Receives Highest Honour

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), spoke at Harvard on Thursday, the same day that celebrated Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was awarded the W.E.B. Du Bois Medal.

On Friday, the LP flag bearer tweeted images from the occasion.

He was pictured at the ceremony posing with Mr. Deval Patrick, a writer and former governor of Massachusetts.

He tweeted: “Yesterday, I joined Governor Deval Patrick @DevalPatrick, the 71st Governor of Massachusetts, 1st and only black Governor of Massachusetts, USA. (2007-2015); and renowned author Chimamanda Adichie @ChimamandaReal as they were honoured with the W.E.B Du Bois Medal Ceremony at Harvard University, in Massachusets, USA.”

At Harvard University’s Sanders Theatre, the W.E.B. Du Bois Medal, the Ivy League institution’s highest honor in the field of African and African American studies, was presented to seven men and women from a variety of fields.

According to the website for Harvard’s Hutchins Center for African & African American Research, artist Betye Saar, NBA player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, actress Laverne Cox, arts patron Agnes Gund, and CEO and philanthropist Raymond J. McGuire also received the award.

There are novels, short stories, and nonfiction books by Adichie.

She was described in The Times Literary Supplement as “the most prominent” of a “procession of critically acclaimed young anglophone authors which is succeeding in attracting a new generation of readers to African literature.
