Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has filed a lawsuit against the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for his covert trial on terrorism-related allegations. On Friday, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the lawsuit.

Following Kanu’s abrupt withdrawal of the lawsuit, which named the Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho, as the only defendant, it was dismissed.

Following the passage of a Practice Direction that ordered the trial of terrorism-related charges to be done in camera, the IPOB leader had called the Chief Judge before the court.

His grouse was that the secret trial policy effected shortly after the Federal Government slammed 15 treasonable felony charges against him constituted an infringement to his fundamental rights to fair trial.
During proceedings, when hearing was to commence on Friday, Kanu through his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, announced that he was no longer interested in continuing with the suit.

Ejiofor subsequently applied that the matter be struck out in line with the wish of Kanu.

Ejiofor told journalists that the action was withdrawn following discovery that the secret trial of terrorism charges policy adopted during trial of Kanu was not targeted at his client.
