After a heated national conflict between Senators Sam Egwu and Anyim Pius Anyim, he first served as PDP’s National Secretary before subsequently rising to the position of National Chairman.

However, due to disagreements with important figures in the government, he was compelled to step down from his position as PDP national chairman.

Ogbulafor was later accused of financial irresponsibility while working as a minister.

He is said to have bragged that the PDP would rule for 40 years, but that prediction was disproved in 2015 when the All Progressives Congress (APC) overthrew the PDP.
