In an effort to resolve the turmoil roiling the party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is expected to unveil a new version of its campaign council list this week, barring any last-minute changes.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the announcement of the new campaign council list would mark the start of the APC campaigns.

All members of the ruling APC, however, would not be able to make the final campaign council roster.

According to a senior member of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), the PCC led by Governor Simon Lalong has also requested financial support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC), which is chaired by Senator Adamu Abdullahi.

“Everybody has been accommodated. The comprehensive names of the members of the directorates will now be released. There are some directorates that we may have up to 30 to 40 names as members. These comprehensive names will be released this week. But, it is important to warn that there is no way every member of the party will be a committee member,” said the source, who declined to have his name mentioned, told Newsmen.

Indicating that the NWC holds a superior status to the campaign council, he continued, “It makes no sense for the NWC members to be vying for membership in the campaign council.”

“Imagine, for instance, the national publicity secretary or national organising secretary of the ruling party struggling to be the director of a campaign council when the council should be statutorily reporting to them,” he said.

The decision of who will manage the presidential campaign’s finances is reportedly threatening to split the ruling party, as the NWC has been asked to provide money to Tinubu’s campaign.

The NWC and PCC this weekend began a cold war against one another for control of the suggested strategy to coordinate fundraising for the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, a top APC official told Newsmen.

The PCC eggheads, he alleged, believed that the NWC should back the presidential candidate with some of the money raised from the sale of nomination forms rather than attempting to manage the money given by the candidate’s sponsors, even though the party’s leadership insisted on taking control.

In response to the situation, a PCC member charged the party’s leadership with hatching a deliberate plan to undermine the presidential candidate through one form of frivolity or another.

However, he attributed the ongoing rift between them to Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman’s, leadership style.

The source said: “Anywhere in the world, the candidate owns his campaign. He appoints what they call campaign manager in the USA or director general in Nigeria, who runs the candidate’s campaign operations and activities. They employ personnel, recruit volunteers, support structures, and, more importantly, run its budget. In every part of the world with modern democracy, the parties will raise their funds to support their candidates.

“Even if individuals donate to the campaign through the candidate, it does not stop the party from raising its fund from traditional donors to support the candidates. The party’s traditional donors are different from other donors that want to support the candidates.”
