As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) formally opens its 2023 presidential campaign, the party is prepared to offer a new deal to the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike.

The PDP’s chances in the 2023 elections have been seriously threatened by the debate between Wike and Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate.

Following their disagreement, Governor Wike and his friends declared that they would boycott the PDP presidential campaign council unless Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, resigned and was replaced by a person from the south.

But it’s reported that the Adolphus Wabara-led PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) plans to extend another offer to the Wike camp as part of the negotiations to bring them on board.

However, a source who spoke to Newsmen about the new plan virtually ruled out Ayu’s departure in the new plan.

It was also said that Wike, Atiku, and the National Working Committee (NWC) must all approve the BoT’s recommendation before it becomes official.

The source said: “The Board of Trustees is making frantic efforts to see whether they can broker any peace deal before the campaign commences tomorrow (Monday). It is not going to be easy, but they have shown that they do not want to give up.

“The real issue is that I don’t think they will advice Ayu to go because of the timing and circumstances and that is the main thing Wike and his people are asking for. You know the BoT is an advisory body. They can only advise. They are supposed to meet with the National Working Committee (NWC), after that they will come out with their report on the way forward.

“It will now be left for the candidate, NWC and the Wike group to accept the recommendations or not. I know that many of the stakeholders are expected to meet this night and fashion out a deal.”
