Unknown Gunmen Disarm Policemen In Ebonyi Kill A Chinese Citizen

Over the weekend, it was reported that some unnamed gunmen assaulted some members of the Nigeria Police Force at a mining site in Iboko, Izzi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the audacious attempt at the mining site led to the death of a Chinese expatriate.

The state’s Izzi Local Government Area Chairman, Steve Emenike, confirmed the event to reporters and claimed that the attackers stormed the scene and disarmed police officers who were on patrol.

He called the assault that resulted in the foreigner’s attack and death a disgrace. According to Emenike, gunmen arrived on motorcycles.

He claimed that the council had revived the fearsome Vigilante Group and outlawed the use of motorcycles in the area between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

“We are working hard to find the causes of the matter and we’re working with security agencies, including the Police and DSS to investigate the matter and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

“We can no longer accept or tolerate this spare of insecurity. Our people are peaceful and we cannot allow evil to germinate,” Emenike told Newsmen.

Other eyewitnesses who affirmed Emenike’s claim said the hoodlums overpowered the policemen who were guarding the Chinese during the attack.

“The corpse of the victim has been deposited at a mortuary in Abakaliki,” the sources confirmed.

When reached by media, SP Chris Anyanwu, the State Police Command’s spokesperson, stated that the command had not officially confirmed the occurrence.

He promised to inform the media of his findings later.
