An urgent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting has been set for Thursday by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The ASUU leadership is anticipated to evaluate the federal government’s accommodating response to its requests.

The union’s administrative offices in the Federal Capital Territory are where the NEC meeting is anticipated to take place (FCT).

Earlier, Anaedoonline.ng had reported that ASUU has instructed its zonal sections to compile members’ opinions through ballots at meetings that will take place on Wednesday (tomorrow).

If ASUU decided to end the strike late on Thursday or early on Friday, it would depend on the results of the meeting.

The report that the union has ended the ongoing industrial action has been refuted by ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke.

Online rumors claimed that on October 17, ASUU instructed its members to resume academic activities.

In response to the story, Osodeke stated that the strike, which has already lasted almost eight months, has not yet been suspended.

But he added that ASUU is trying to stop the strike and that the decision to do so would depend on the opinions of the members who attended the zonal meetings.

Recall that ASUU announced on Monday that the strike would be called off very soon after meeting with House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

Femi Falana (SAN), the union’s attorney, also confirmed the development.
