Chimaroke Nnamani, a senator from Enugu East, has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for launching their presidential campaigns while neglecting Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, and four other governors.

The biggest opposition party formally launched its presidential campaign on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, according to an earlier report by Anaedoonline.ng.

Yesterday’s event was missed by Governor Wike, Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Samuel Ortom (Benue).

Because they demanded that Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, resign from his position, the irate governors may have neglected the presidential campaign.

Ayu’s resignation had been demanded by Governor Wike’s camp due to northern domination in important party positions.

Nnamani in a statement released on Tuesday, said the leadership of PDP should have done more in a give-and-take manner to carry along the governors

The statement was titled ‘2023 PDP Presidential Campaigns: Ignoring Five Governors, Discouraging – Sen Nnamani.’

Nnamani wrote, “Today, I go on record in total condemnation of the treatment of the five governors mostly from the southern states within the PDP. The Governors are our leaders and their humiliation rubs off on all of us.”

The lawmaker disclosed that during his days, state governors were not treated badly.

He cautioned against erecting parallel structures in the five governors’ states stressing that “politics is local and the folks from these affected states parading with the PDP leadership will not deliver their polling booths without the governors.

“Without the involvement of the governors that are our leaders, these mere cheerleaders and feel-good political operatives cannot deliver.

“They can drag themselves from their home states to Abuja. Some are Abuja, permanent residents. They dress the meetings and colour the rallies, but that is what it is, political colour dressing.”
