Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, announced the appointment of 28,000 people to various political positions on Wednesday.

His spokesperson, Kelvin Ebiri, released a statement that detailed the appointment. All of the appointments, according to the announcement, are effective right away.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the new appointment was made within twenty-four hours after the governor of Rivers State appointed 319 ward liaison officers and 40 local government area liaison officers in addition to 14,000 special advisers.

According to the statement by Ebiri, Governor Wike also allocated N1 billion to help flood victims in the state, particularly those in Ahoada West and the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government areas (LGAs).

According to him, the move is “to enable vulnerable families, particularly in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGAs, which are the most impacted areas in the state, to cope with the devastating flood water which has inundated homes, farmlands and forced residents of affected communities to relocate to safer places”.

To ensure that the impacted people may get government action, a task team has been established.

The Taskforce will be led by Dr. George Nwaeke, Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau (SSB), in the Office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government. Mrs. Inime I. Aguma will act as the Taskforce’s secretary.

All task force participants have been invited to a meeting with Governor Wike on Thursday at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt.
