An aide to former Imo Governor Emeka Ihedioha, Aic Akwarandu, has praised the Court of Appeal’s ruling regarding Nnamdi Kanu.

Akwarandu characterized the move as a wise one that has reduced worry in Southeast region states.

“The judgement is a relief to the tension in the land. It also signals a new feeling in the country”, he said.

Akwarandu commended the judiciary for maintaining its independence, noting that the decision “presents Nigeria better among the comity of nations”.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader’s terrorism accusation was dismissed on Thursday by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

The Federal High Court in Abuja’s seven-count allegations against Kanu were dismissed by the court.

The government broke the law when it brought the Biafra activist back from Kenya to continue his trial, according to the three-person tribunal headed by Justice Jummai Hanatu.

The judges ruled that Kanu’s rights, as well as international treaties, protocols, and guidelines that Nigeria is a signatory to, were gravely violated by such an extraordinary rendition without following due process.

The government’s actions, according to the appellate court, “abuse criminal prosecution in general” and tarnished the entire case it started against Kanu.
