The Academic Staff Union of University’s (ASUU) eight-month-long strike has been temporarily suspended.

A National Executive Committee (NEC) member of the union who spoke with Channels TV in the early hours of Friday confirmed the development.

Following a lengthy discussion that started on Thursday night and went into the early hours of Friday, the ASUU NEC agreed to call off the strike.

After the Court of Appeal ordered its members to restart last week, the union scheduled the meeting to determine the next course of action.

Recall that the Court of Appeal had instructed ASUU to call off its strike until its appeal of the Industrial Court’s decision ordering lecturers to resume work could be heard.

The Chairman of the state chapters and members of the national executive attended the meeting which was held at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year.
