After a lawsuit was filed to have Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), removed, the effort to do so has intensified.

The administration of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has recently pushed for Ayu’s resignation or removal.

The PDP Governors, often known as the G-5, are opposed to northern domination in influential roles within the main opposition party.

The legal lawsuit to remove Ayu and the party’s National Working Committee from office does not appear to have any impact on the camp of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The court had pledged to expedite the process for the PDP NWC’s dismissal.

On October 14, 2022, Justice Binta Nyako declared that there is no need for a formal application for an expedited hearing.

Nyako stated that she was prepared to hear and decide the issue quickly due to the nature of the case, the reliefs requested, and the potential influence on the electoral process.

She then issued an order setting the subject for a specific hearing on November 10, 2022.

The PDP and the Atiku camp have not responded to the lawsuit brought against the NWC because they didn’t seem to be affected by it.

Chuma Chinye, the former National Chairman’s principal secretary, filed the lawsuit (Uche Secondus).

However, political analysts think the lawsuit is being masterminded by Governor Wike’s camp.

For a variety of legal reasons, including non-compliance with the Party’s Constitution in the administration of the National Convention at which the NWC was elected, Chinye is asking the court to force the dissolution of the Ayu-led NWC.

The decision’s outcome will significantly affect the legitimacy of the party’s nominee, particularly Atiku.
