See How NiDCOM Reacted As Indians Attack Nigerian Students In Delhi

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has responded to an altercation that involved Indian students and students from several African countries, including Nigeria.

According to earlier reports from Anaedoonline.ng, some university students in Delhi, India attacked Nigerian students while they were watching a football game.

A lecturer from India named Ashok Swain claims that the attack happened after Nigerian students offered Namaz on the football field between the teams.

In response to the development, the NiDCOM’s Abike Dabiri-Erewa revealed that roughly 86 Nigerian students had sought asylum at its mission in India in a tweet on Monday.

“This occurred on Saturday as a result of an altercation that broke out during an Indian and African student football game.

“The Nigerian mission immediately took custody of 86 Nigerian students, invited the representatives of the Indian government, and got their commitment to ensure the safety of the students who then returned back to campus on Sunday,” she tweeted.

Abike further assured that calm has returned to the campus, adding that a few injuries were recorded and further investigations are ongoing.

“The Nigerian mission had made it clear that the Indian authorities would be held responsible if anything happens to any of the students,” she added.
