Before he leaves office in 2023, President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed his advisers to start the necessary planning and documentation.

The Nigerian president, who is preparing for the conclusion of his second term, instructed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, on Tuesday to take the process of quarterly reviews and ministry evaluations seriously for the third and fourth quarters of 2022.

He claims that this will be included in the transitional materials his administration provides to the new administration following the 2023 presidential elections.

Executive Order 012 on Improving Performance Management, Coordination and Implementation of Presidential Priorities was signed by Buhari after the directive, according to Naija News.

To accomplish the goal, he gave an order to all ministers and permanent secretaries to make sure that the performance reports of their ministries were sent to the Office of the SGF on a quarterly basis for assessment by the Central Delivery Coordination Unit.

“The outcome of these reviews would be made available for my consideration,” the president reiterated.

At the event, President Buhari also issued a warning to ministers, permanent secretaries, and heads of government agencies, informing them that such transgressions would be severely punished.

The president noted that everyone will be busy as general election campaigns have started.

Despite the political squabbles, he cautioned retreat attendees to pay close attention to the governance process.

“Consequently, all ministers, permanent secretaries and heads of agencies must remain focused in the discharge of their duties, as any infraction will be viewed seriously.
