A leader of the People’s Democratic Party in Enugu State named Barr Ray Nnaji received harsh criticism on Monday for saying that the state’s opposition parties have no chance of winning elections because they lack the necessary infrastructure and financial resources.

Nnaji talked during a Dream92.5Fm “Political Voices” segment that our journalist was listening to.

He claimed that “in Enugu State, opposition parties have not reached legal age. They’re not very good. Some people are merely riding interests. They cannot surpass the current framework. You need structure and’shishi’ (money).

“You are joking if you don’t donate shishi but promise to collect it after you are elected. It is lobbying, not the purchase of votes. The system made it like that.”

A trader, Emeka Ndu, in a separate interview with Newsmen, said, “Come next year, Enugu people will surprise some political parties. We will share the money, but will disappoint many of the them. It will never be business as usual.”

A resident of Eke Obinagu, Cliff Omeje, said, “Let there be a level playing field first of all. We have been sharing money all this while, but where I live is not accessible. There is no government presence. That is why it is no longer give and take. We have our voters’ cards to decide our fate. We need quality representation, and not expired and selfish politicians.”
