As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Rivers State gets ready to introduce branded vehicles for the campaign, Atiku Abubakar’s picture is absent.

Along with the PDP campaign council secretariat, the Rivers State chapter is ready to present the branded vehicles on Monday (today).

The secretariat for the party’s campaign is situated along Woji Road in GRA, Port Harcourt.

Peace Threatened As Wike, Atiku’s Men Argue Over Ayu

Felix Obuah, a former PDP leader in the state, has been named director-general, while Nyesom Wike, the governor of the state, is the council’s chairman.

In an interview with the Leadership, former member of the House of Representatives Ogbonna Nwuke discussed the situation and stated that the fact that the campaign trucks are painted in PDP colors proves Governor Wike and the other four disgruntled governors are still party members.

Governors Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo had previously threatened to withdraw their support for Atiku if Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, was not ousted.

Nwuke said: “I haven’t seen the buses myself. I will have the opportunity to confirm it when the campaign office opens its doors to the public on Monday. If as you said, the branded buses are not carrying images of Atiku, it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

“Members of the G5 (Five PDP Governors) have vowed to remain in the PDP. The fact that the buses are emblazoned in PDP colours is a confirmation of their membership in the party.

“It is on record that the G5 has withdrawn from the Atiku campaign council. If, as you said, the buses are not carrying Atiku’s face, it will ordinarily mean that the G5 states have kept faith with their pledge not to campaign for Atiku if he refuses to listen to demands for fair play in the PDP.”

He added that Governor Wike and his team’s determination to stay out of the Atiku campaign was fulfilled by the choice to exclude Atiku’s image.

The former lawmaker expressed optimism that PDP will ensure inclusivity in his attempt to appease irate members.
