2023: INEC Reveals Date For Bayelsa, Imo, Kogi Governorship Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the governorship elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi State will take place on November 11, 2023.

This was announced by the Commission at its Tuesday weekly meeting.

In a statement he published on Tuesday, Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, verified the occurrence.

According to Okoye, the dates for the parties’ primaries are March 27–April 17, 2023.

According to Okoye, the decision complies with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which requires INEC to publish the Notice of Election no later than 360 days prior to the election date.

The electoral umpire further noted that the current governor of Imo State’s term expires on January 14, 2024, while terms in Kogi and Bayelsa States expire on January 26, 2024, and February 13, 2024, respectively.

Additionally, INEC stated that on November 14, 2022, the three States will publish the required notice for the governorship elections.
