The Nigerian Army has sent troops to initiate a coordinated security search of three local government areas in Kwara state.

The army has been deployed to his LGAs in Iferodun, Edu and Patigi, according to a statement on Tuesday by Rafiu Ajacaye, chief spokesman for the state government.

The government also urged citizens to report any suspicious activity or unfamiliar faces in their vicinity to state security agencies.

Security sources said other agencies, including police and the secret service, have also intensified intelligence gathering efforts in collaboration with the state government to foil any planned attacks on the state.

One of the sources said, “There are intelligence reports that point to the danger of attacks. So the state government has mobilised security agencies and raised alerts to prevent breaches. But it is also important for everyone to report suspicious activities or new faces in their environment.

“At this stage, everyone must work with the government and security agencies to disallow evil elements from disrupting the peace of the state.”

Another source said many parts of Nigeria, including Kwara, are now recording “opportunistic abductions” done to extort the political class as the campaign for the 2023 elections has begun across the country.
