Festus Keyamo (SAN), the Minister of State for Labour and Employment and Chief Spokesperson for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, claims that the council had a security directorate that could handle any safety issues during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rallies.

Remember that the United States of America and the United Kingdom both issued advisories regarding the potential for a terrorist attack in Abuja on Sunday?

The US Embassy in Abuja issued a message on Sunday informing people that it will provide fewer services up until further notice and advising them to refrain from making any unneeded movements.

The message also stated that government buildings, houses of worship, schools, markets, shopping centers, hotels, bars, restaurants, sporting events, transportation hubs, and law enforcement facilities could all be potential targets for the terrorists.

Additionally, the United Kingdom urged its residents in Nigeria to exercise caution and maintain vigilance in a statement released on Sunday by its embassy in Abuja.

Keyamo responded to the security risks by saying, “We have a directorate that is responsible for security.
One of the reasons the specific directorate was established was for that purpose.
Any proactive measures relating to a security threat will be effectively handled by them.

The Minister, however, insisted that “we have not yet taken any of such decisions” and declined to disclose whether the party will cancel its rallies in response to the security advise. However, I don’t believe there is any reason for concern.

Felix stated, “I don’t think the alert is strong enough to want to make the APC cancel any campaign. But, of course, there will be a need to reinforce. I was just watching on TV how the DSS was telling everybody to be on alert. I want to believe every political party will take extra precaution because of this.”

On the need to deploy more policemen and soldiers, the APC campaign Deputy Director for Youth stated, “We should be expecting that. But it is not strong enough to call for outright cancellation of campaigns or rallies. After all, the Federal Government did not say people shouldn’t gather. It only said people should be on alert.”
