The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is in the midst of a leadership crisis as Nigeria approaches the general elections in 2023.

The party’s current leadership issue may cause the PDP to lose the 2023 presidential election.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the PDP has been mired in a leadership crisis ever since the party’s presidential primaries in February.

PDP Crisis: Mimiko Blasts Atiku, PDP, Makes Position With Wike

The problem grew worse when Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party’s front-runner for president and chose Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, who finished second in the primary elections, is upset that Atiku chose Okowa as his running mate instead of paying attention to him.

Wike’s camp asked Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, resign as the issue worsened.

Wike’s camp has resisted attempts by Atiku’s camp to appease it, maintaining that its demand must be satisfied.

Socio-political expert Deji Adeyanju commented on the situation and predicted that the dispute between Wike and the party’s leadership will have an impact on the PDP’s prospects in 2023.

Speaking with Newsmen, Adeyanju said: “Yes, of course, I think so because I think Atiku and his campaign team have moved on from Wike, so no matter the noise he makes, they don’t care anymore.

“Wike is overdoing it and he has made his point; there is no need to go back and forth on the same issues; it looks childish.

“And of course, the grievance with Atiku is going to definitely affect the chances of PDP, because there is no way a divided house will stand.”
