Senate Questions NDLEA’s Over 1.5 Billion Recruitment Spending

The Senate, through its Public Accounts Committee, has questioned the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency about spending N1.5 billion to hire 5,000 employees in 2021.

He raised N1.5 billion through a service-wide vote by NDLEA.

In examining voting costs across the service, Senator Matthew Urhohid, chairman of the committee, asked why the agency used such an amount to recruit his 5,000 staff. I asked

Committee, Senator Ibrahim Hadesia, also endorsed his colleagues on how to spend such a sum to recruit 5,000 employees.

In his defense, the Director of Finance and Account, Abdullaahi Shitu, who represented the Chairman of the NDLEA claimed that part of the money was used to renovate the building at the training camp of the agency.

The lawmakers, however, rejected the explanation saying the Authority to Incure Expenditure submitted by the agency showed it was for recruitment not for the building in the training camp.

The Committee, therefore, ordered the NDLEA to bring the nominal roll of the 5000 personnel of the agency for betting by Thursday (tomorrow).
