Redesigning the naira, according to African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, will not lessen national insecurity.
Sowore predicted that due to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s new stance, kidnappers will start asking for ransom payments in foreign currencies.
The AAC presidential contender called the redesign of the naira note a pointless policy in an interview with Newsmen.

Sowore believes that Godwin Emefiele, the governor of CBN, ought to step down.
When questioned about whether the idea would decrease kidnapping and general insecurity, Sowore responded, “Of course not, kidnappers would simply move to seeking foreign dollars as most of the high-profile ones already do now.
“It is a senseless policy. The CBN Governor had no business redesigning the naira, he owes Nigerians a resignation from office.”
He also disregarded the debate over the Arabic writing on the naira notes.
While some Nigerians have demanded that the writing be removed, others want it to stay on the newly styled naira notes.

Commenting on the issue, Sowore said: “It doesn’t matter to me what’s inscribed on the naira as long as it is strong in terms of purchasing power.
“If you like inscribe Swahili on it or Japanese, these are mundane issues.”
