Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has stated that if elected, he will sell all Nigerian oil refineries to businesses.

During a visit to Washington, Atiku spoke with the Voice of America in a special interview.

“My attitude on this is unchanged; I have said it before and I will say it again: I will sell it to private sectors.”

Because if you sell it to investors, they would handle the companies well,” Atiku remarked in an interview with Aliyu Mustapha Sokoto, the head of VOA’s Hausa Department.

Concerning the issue of oil theft in southern Nigeria, Atiku, who served as vice president from 1999 to 2007, said he will utilize his presidential power to address it.

“This is a different problem, and we must figure out how to deal with it using the power vested in the government to ensure it no longer exists because there is cordial agreement between those working in the NNPC and security operatives, who have been tasked with monitoring oil vessels across the country.”

Nigeria has four oil refineries in Kaduna, Warri, and Fatakwal that are out of commission due to maintenance issues.

As a result, the majority of crude oil consumed in the country is imported from other countries.
