Tanzanian Fisherman Honoured For Saving Victims Of Plane Crash

The Tanzanian government has recognised Tanzanian fisherman Jackson Majaliwa, who was among the first responders at the scene of the jet that crashed into Lake Victoria on Sunday.

According to Eastern Africa, the Kagera Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, gave the fishermen from the lakeside hamlet of Bukoba a monetary gift of $428 (equal to Tsh1 million) on Monday.

Samia Suluhu, the president of Tanzania, also sent an employment offer to Majaliwa for a position with the firefighting and rescue service.

24 passengers escaped the collision, while 19 perished.
