2 UNIZIK Alumni Remodels Office Complex for Lecturers

Mr. Arnold Chukwuebuka Ekweoba and Mr. Osorachukwu Ani, both UNIZIK alumni and Anambra-based real estate moguls, have presented new ultra-modern offices to the institution’s Department of Estate Management, Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

The rebuilt office building was lured by Dr. Joseph Chukwudi Onyejiaka of the Department of Estate Management via the CEOs of Arnold & Associates, Mr. Arnold Chukwuebuka Ekweoba, and Sure Homes & Land, Mr. Osorachukwu Ani.

The gestures were intended to address the department’s office space need as well as to supplement the university’s current office space.

On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, the university vice-chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, praised the benefactors for their generosity, saying that it was high time the university Alumni began contributing to the institution’s progress. He praised the benefactors as deserving ambassadors of the university and thanked Dr. Onyejiaka for bringing such a project to the university.

Prof. Esimone also vowed to help the faculty by constructing a suitable structure, as well as furnishing the offices to make them more conducive. He said that he had graciously approved the launch of three new environmental science programs: Water Resources, Urban and Rural Planning, and Maritime Institute.

“We are grateful to God for your gift to this university and on behalf of the staff of the department, I express our gratitude for your magnanimous approval of our request to remodel the hitherto classroom into offices to address the excruciating need of more offices for the teeming number of our staff without offices and conducive environment where they attend, counsel students”, he said.

UNIZIK Releases Date For Resumption Of Academic Activities

Mr. Ekweoba, the CEO of Arnold and Associates, a major Real Estate Development Company in Anambra state, said the gesture was motivated by his desire to alleviate the department’s and, by extension, the university’s office space challenges. He also said that he had granted scholarships to over 20 students at various points in order for them to graduate smoothly.

Similarly, Mr. Ani, CEO of Sure Homes & Land, stated that his desire to give back to the department drove his collaboration with Arnold and Associates to establish a suitable working environment for the Estate Management personnel, while urging the department to maintain the offices.
He assured that they would also help with workplace furnishings.

In a statement, Dr. Onyejiaka stated that the benefactors graduated from the Department of Estate Management in 2015, and that he would continue to make attempts to attract similar initiatives.

He said, “I approached Mr. Arnold in 2021, requesting him to contribute his quota as a corporate social responsibility to his alma mater – Unizik. They agreed to fund the project from start to finish.

“A good number of staff in the department does not have offices that will enable them to perform their duties optimally. The project will solve the problem of lack of office spaces, especially for the new staff.

“You can imagine a student who is a supervisee but his lecturer doesn’t have an office space to effectively supervise his project. The offices will ensure the availability of staff to our students.

“The department has been managing the little office space available to its staff. This will henceforth boost the chances of the department during National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercises. The offices have a capacity to accommodate 15 staff members and it’s a plus to the university”, Onyejiaka enthused.

Earlier, Prof. Charles Egolum, a founding member of Estate Management and former Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, described the gesture as salutary and relevant, inviting other alumni members of the university to take a leaf from the benefactors.
