The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked former President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene in the party’s issue ahead of the 2023 elections.
Jonathan is thought to have the power to reconcile the unhappy groups and re-unite the party, therefore the decision to seek his assistance.
This move was revealed on Thursday by Gabriel Suswam, a former Governor of Benue State, during an interview on Arise TV.

According to Suswam, the PDP issue, which has pitted Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and his supporters (G5) on one side and the party’s presidential nominee, Atiku Abubakar, and the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu on the other, is a “family matter.”
According to Anaedoonline.ng, Wike and his team have sought Ayu’s resignation as PDP National Chairman and his replacement with a southerner as the single condition for the party’s support for the 2023 presidential election.
They stated that for the sake of justice and fairness, all significant posts in the party should not be held by a single region, and that Ayu had also vowed to resign if a northerner was elected as the PDP presidential candidate in 2023.
Suswam expressed optimism in the situation on Thursday, saying that all issues will be resolved before the 2023 election and that the PDP would go to the polls unified.

He said: “Jonathan has been dragged into the issue to resolve the matter. Solving this problem between the G-5 governors is what we should be looking at. When Wike inaugurated the election council in Rivers State, all the governors were there; they were also there when Ortom inaugurated the same in Benue State; this shows that they still love the party.
“PDP has the capacity and internal mechanisms to resolve the party; this is why we are bringing in Jonathan to help resolve the matter.
“Jonathan has been dragged into the issue to resolve the matter. Solving this problem is what we should be looking at. They still love their party at heart.
“Wike had said he is open to reconciliation, Ortom said some of his comments were misinterpreted.”
