Suspected arsonists allegedly set fire to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Osun state’s Ede-South local government area.

The fire was reported to have started in the early hours of Thursday, but the rapid action of the state’s fire service department stopped the situation from spreading from the conference hall, where it began, to other portions.

Findings at the location of the event in the Oke-Iresi section of town revealed that unknown perpetrators set fire to the structure using bread soaked in petroleum, also known as a bread bomb.

Attempts to contact the State Fire Service Department’s Public Relations Officer were futile because his phone number is unreachable and he did not acknowledge or respond to text messages sent to his phone number.

Mrs Oluwaseun Osimosu, the Osun INEC Public Relations Officer, verified the occurrence, adding that the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mutiu Agboke, will address journalists on the situation later in the day.
