Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR greeted former Anambra State and Nigeria’s first female governor, Dame Virgy Etiaba CON, on her 80th birthday celebration on Friday 11th November 2022, and shared the delight of the momentous occasion with the famous educationist’s family and friends.
President Buhari’s statement, as conveyed by his media spokesman, Femi Adesina, rejoiced with the former Governor and Deputy Governor of Anambra State, whose labor of love in the educational sector will always be remembered, working as a teacher for 35 years before retiring to establish the equally renowned Bennet Etiaba Memorial Schools, in honor of her late husband BMC Etiaba Esq., who died in June 20.
Buhari praised the former governor for making a significant difference in her brief tenure, signing the Anambra State Child’s Rights Bill into law and launching big infrastructure projects that gained her a reputation for being persistent, firm, and purposeful.
As Dame Etiaba celebrates another milestone, the President encourages her to consider God’s numerous blessings on her life, as well as the privilege of influencing lives as a professional teacher, before the wider political opportunity of sharing her compassion, competency, and excellent leadership style.
Dame Virgy, also known as Mama Anambra, has raised men and women of timber and straw, including a son who led the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, two sons who are Senior Advocates of Nigeria, a world-class Publisher, a top Diplomat, and the head of Private Banking in Nigeria.
