The Federal Government will resume the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on terrorist charges on Monday, November 14.

The trial will focus solely on seven of the fifteen counts brought against Kanu by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor, one of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, confirmed that the trial would begin on November 14 after receiving notice from the court to that effect.

According to reliable sources, a motion on notice objecting to the start of the trial has already been filed and will take center stage at the November 14 sessions.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the opposition to the trial was based on two grounds: the October verdict of the Court of Appeal, which nullified Kanu’s rendition from Kenya to Nigeria and subsequently annulled the terrorism accusations and absolved him from the accused offenses.

The second ground was the Federal Government’s appeal to the Supreme Court of the Court of Appeal judgement.

In the filed move on notice, Ozekhome SAN requested that the trial be suspended awaiting the outcome of the Supreme Court’s decision on the issue.

However, after hearing arguments for and against the request, Justice Nyako is expected to rule one way or the other.

Meanwhile, security measures have been put in place to ensure smooth procedures both inside and outside the courthouse.
