Professor Gabriel Yomere, a new Resident Electoral Commissioner, has started working for the Independent National Electoral Commission in Cross River State.

On November 10, 2022, he replaced Alalibo Johnson, who had been transferred to Rivers State.

Anthonia Nwobi, the INEC Cross River State’s head of voter education and publicity, said in a statement on Tuesday that Yomere was one of the 19 newly sworn-in RECs on November 3, 2022.

She claimed that Yomere had begun meeting with key participants in the electoral process, including the police commissioner, the state director of the DSS, the navy, party chairmen, etc.

Yomere, a strategic management specialist, acquired his first degree, Masters, and Ph.D. in Germany.

Addressing the management staff on arrival, the new REC urged them to cooperate with him for a successful tenure.

Yomere, while monitoring the ongoing display of the Preliminary Register of Voters exercise on Tuesday, said that the activity would last for 14 days.

He said, “The pre-election exercise will give the citizens the opportunity for claims and objections, which will take place simultaneously.

“By claims, they will point out errors made in their names and personal particulars while by objections, they will report to INEC names that they identify on the register that ought not to be there, like names of dead people, under-aged persons, foreigners, etc.”

He, however, cautioned that the claims and objections must be backed with authentic proofs.
