Anambra To Represent Nigeria in Vietnam, After Wining President’s Secondary Schools Debate

Anaedoonline.ng reports that the Anambra Debate Team has won the President’s Inter-Senior Secondary Schools Debate Championship and will represent Nigeria at the World Schools Debate Championship in Vietnam in 2023.

The President’s Inter-Senior Secondary Schools Debate Championship is an annual debate championship for all states in Nigeria conducted by the Presidency through President’s Schools Debate Nigeria.

The debate tournament was held in Abuja from November 14th to November 17th, 2022. The Anambra state debate team overcame all other participating states in the preliminary round to face the Nasarawa state team in the grand event at the Federal Ministry of Education Headquarters in Abuja. The teams debated whether “technology has done more harm than good in the twenty-first century.” The Anambra state debate team performed admirably in proposing the motion, winning the judges’ and the gracious crowd’s ovation to win National First Place. The debate teams from Nasarawa and Abia states finished second and third, respectively.

Mrs Amaka Anekwe, the state debate coordinator, and the state debate coaches, John Onuigbo and Chiagozie Udorji led the state delegation, which included student debaters Ezechukwu Emmanuel and Okey-Okonkwo John of All Hallows Seminary Onitsha, Okafor Obioma of Mater Amabilis Secondary School Umuoji, and Mbachu Promise of St Michael’s Model Comprehensive Sec Sch Nimo.

This victory qualifies the Anambra state debate team to represent the country at the World Schools Debate Championships in Vietnam in 2023.
