Metal knuckles: Adesanya Freed After Being Detained In US

Israel Adesanya, a former middleweight champion of the UFC, has reportedly been released after being detained for allegedly passing brass knuckles through security at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

The 33-year-old was detained by Port Authority police on Wednesday in the American Airlines terminal, according to a report in ANAEDOONLINE.NG, The 33-year-old lost his title to Alex Pereira by TKO in New York City last Saturday.

In New York, having brass knuckles is a Class A misdemeanour, and having them on an aeroplane is prohibited. However, it’s unclear exactly where Adesanya is said to have kept the weapon.

His release was confirmed by Canadian-based Combat Sports reporter who works for ESPN, Marc Raimondi, on his verified Twitter handle, referencing a statement issued by Adesanya’s manager, Tim Simpson of Paradigm Sports Management on the incident on Wednesday.

The statement reads: “Israel was handed a gift by a fan, which he put in his luggage. When flagged at the airport, Israel quickly disposed of the item and cooperated with authorities.

“He has complied accordingly; with that, the matter was dismissed, and he is on his way home.”
