Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike claimed again on Saturday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, stole cash earned by the party from the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for primaries in May.

Wike spoke at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, the state capital, during the launch of the PDP’s state-level campaigns.

He dared Ayu to go to court if he was innocent.

“Ayu is corrupt. Rivers people are hurt. Ayu, you are fighting corruption, how do you fight corruption? I said you took N1bn. I told you, you took the money we realised from the primaries. Ayu sue me!” a furious Wike said.

“You cannot fight Rivers State and go free,” he added.

Wike had accused Ayu of a similar offense in October, but the Benue-born lawmaker denied it. Wike has also not supplied any evidence to back up his claim.

Wike further stated that he believes in the party but also in equity, fairness, and justice.

He stated that Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, must establish a government of inclusiveness and national unity inside the party.

If Atiku believes in restructuring and devolution of power, and President Muhammadu Buhari chose 17 northerners as security chiefs, he should correct the party by asking Ayu to step down in favor of a southerner.

Wike and other members of the PDP G5 – Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Ifeanyi Ugwuany (Enugu). Taofeek Arapaja, PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), and Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State, were also present.

In his remarks, Ortom stressed that a southerner should succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2023.

The G5 has consistently demanded that Ayu resign as PDP national chairman for “fairness and justice,” arguing that northerners should be the party’s chair and presidential candidate.
