With the elections quickly approaching, several groups have issued similar pleas for peace before, during, and after the general election in 2023.

Just as the presidential campaign for 2023 formally began in September, the National Peace Committee, led by former Military Head of State Abdusalami Abubakar, persuaded the presidential candidates to sign a peace treaty in Abuja.

At the signing of the agreement, the Peace Committee urged the 18 political parties, their presidential candidates, and spokespersons to commit to issue-based campaigns, since fake news and misinformation are already endangering the peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections.
