After their interactive sessions, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) conveyed a clear message to the presidential candidates of the various political parties in the country.

Archbishop Daniel Okoh, National President of CAN, commended the presidential contenders who honored their invitation to the just finished interactive session in a statement signed and made available to Newsmen on Thursday.

The purpose of the interactive session with CAN was to discuss issues that will benefit all Nigerians.

He stated that the discourse with lawmakers ahead of the 2023 general elections is extraordinary, providing a venue for collectively reviewing and understanding the nation’s development and governance crises and finding long-term solutions to them.

“Having consulted with Nigerians of diverse religious, ethnic and social class on the problems of the country and the possible solutions to them, CAN articulated these ideas in a document we christened, The Charter for a New Nigeria. The position of CAN on certain national issues based on this document was presented to the presidential candidates,” the statement said.

Okoh challenged those presidential candidates who have decided to implement the suggested solutions to the country’s crisis as outlined in its charter to walk the walk if elected in 2023.

CAN did not, however, leave out the fact that Nigeria’s next president will be under intense pressure to make an instant impact upon taking office next year.

“Let no one get it twisted, the engagement with the 2023 presidential candidates was neither a campaign programme nor an endorsement event,” the statement said.

CAN stated that its position on national issues is not limited to Christians but applies to all Nigerians regardless of faith.

The apex Christian body urged citizens to hear from these presidential candidates before marching to polling stations in 2023 in order to make informed decisions.
