Anambra Based Startup Wins N15M In Zenith Tech Fair

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Foris Labs, an Anambra-based startup, received a whopping 15 million Naira for second place at the just ended Zenith Bank tech show in Lagos.

Foris Labs offered an app-based platform that allows students to do science experiments from anywhere, at any time, using their smartphones or laptop computers.

According to Zenith Bank, the purpose of the fair was to identify, spotlight, connect, reward, and mentor scalable Nigerian startups whose business solutions have the potential to reshape the Future of Business in Africa.

It is a platform for Zenith Bank to support the finest entrepreneurs in the following sectors: wholesale and retail, eCommerce, Payments, Lending, Wellness, Cyber Security, EdTech, Electricity (power vending), and Agritech.

Out of over 500 submissions, 11 finalists were chosen and trained by Seedstars to compete for top awards at the Zenith Bank Tech Fair, which will be held at Eko Hotels and Suites Lagos on November 22nd and 23rd, 2022.

Jim Ovia, Founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank, delivered a goodwill message at the event.

Among those who will talk are Ebenezer Onyeagwu, Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr Adaora Umeoji, Tarik Alatovic (McKinsey), Juliet Ehimuan (Google), Ola Williams (Microsoft), Andrew Uaboi (Visa West Africa), Rakiya Mohammed (CBN), Chris Lu (Huawei), and others.

Babajide Oluwase of Ecotutu won the big prize of 20 million naira, as well as the opportunity to pitch investors and earn access to the Seedstars Mentorship Hub. Foris Labs’ John Onuigbo took second place, earning 15 million naira in prize money and a scholarship to the Seedstars mentorship hub. Tomi Kolawale of Finva took third place and received a ten million naira prize as well as a scholarship to the Seedstars mentorship hub.

The remaining eight finalists, TynuEv, GreenBii, Base, Sonocare, Zion robotics, IgrowAfrika, Eduvacity, and Sanwo, each earned a cash reward of one million Naira.

Foris labs was founded in the midst of a pandemic to assist science students in dealing with online learning.
Since then, the company has evolved to win global prizes such as the Stanford Centre for Longevity Design Challenge 2021 and the Global Edtech Startup Awards Nigeria 2021, among others.
The device is currently being tested in schools across four states and will be available to the general public soon.
