Dr Yunusa Tanko, Chief Spokesperson of the Obi-Datti Campaign, believes the Labour Party presidential ticket’s promise to save Nigeria goes beyond politics.

Yunusa declared on Channels Television Sunrise Daily on Friday that the country is collapsing and that every Nigerian must work together to save it.

“We are talking about rescuing Nigeria for crying out loud. Every Nigerian is unhappy with the situation we have found ourselves in; it’s not about politics this time around. It’s gone beyond politics. It is about the rescuing of this country because we are going down as a people,” the LP campaign spokesperson said while answering a question on whether the support from Afenifere and other similar groups will translate to votes for his candidate.

Speaking on the Babachir Lawal-led Northern APC group’s support for the Obi-Datti ticket based on equity, Yunusa said that even though Mr Peter Obi has repeatedly stated that no one should vote for him based on his ethnicity or religion, but rather on his competence, the Labour Party still appreciates that some people are seeing the light and beginning to pitch their tent with the party.

He chastised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for raising concerns about the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), arguing that if there is a network for withdrawing money from anywhere in the country, there should be no concern about a network for transmitting election results from every ward.

The LP chieftain accused the APC of seeking to manipulate the system, circumvent the rule of law, and repress the will of the people by attempting to reverse its support for the use of BVAS.

He stated that the new Electoral Act supports the use of BVAS and that the APC may only dispute it in court if they are not happy.

Peter Obi Won’t Attend Debates If Presidential Candidates Fail To Show Up

His remarks came only days after the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, told Nigerians that the usage of BVAS and electronic transmission of results is not being phased out.

Yakubu stated that the Commission is determined to use BVAS technology to deliver a free, fair, and credible and transparent election.
