As competing cult groups clashed, there were occasional shootings near Zik Avenue in Awka, Anambra State.
Although the cause of the fight has not yet been determined, it is believed that it took place in the early hours of Saturday.
During the shooting rampage, the cult members allegedly fired at each other while the nearby residents fled for safety.

Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the state police command, confirmed the occurrence and stated that police patrol teams had increased activity around the neighbourhood and the city of Awka.
He said, “Following the sound of gun shots at Zik Avenue, Awka, police patrol has been intensified in Awka. Preliminary information revealed that the cause of the shooting is as a result of cult related incident/clash.
“The situation is closely monitored and further development shall be communicated.”
As of the time of filing this report, the casualty figure has not been ascertained.
