According to sources, there are clear evidence that Lawan and his friends were using President Muhammadu Buhari’s name to push hard and influence the outcome of the Appeal Court Judgement in his lawsuit against Machina.

Embattled Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, is currently seeking out to the justices of the Appeal Court for a favorable verdict in the Yobe North Senatorial Ticket controversy between him and the announced winner, Bashir Machina, according to Newsmen.

According to sources, there are clear evidence that Lawan and his friends were using President Muhammadu Buhari’s name to push hard and influence the outcome of the Appeal Court Judgement in his lawsuit against Machina.

Winner of Yobe APC Senatorial Primary Election Refuses To Step Down For Lawan

Remember that in June, the Federal High Court in Damaturu, Yobe State, pronounced Machina to be the genuine APC senatorial candidate for Yobe North, having emerged from a legal primary election held on May 28, 2022.

Though Lawan initially accepted the verdict and publicly stated his intention not to appeal, he has since reversed his position and is quietly supporting the appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

The case is being heard by the Court’s President, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, and two other Justices.

However, it was reported that Senate President Lawan, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu, and several top presidential officials were working around the clock to overturn the lower court’s verdict using Buhari’s signature.

According to reports, the governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, and one Usman Musale are in charge of influencing the Appeal Court Justices.

“Lawan has also been putting strong pressure on Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni to reach out to his Plateau State counterpart, Simon Lalong, who played a critical role in Monica’s emergence as President of the Court of Appeal,” a top source stated.

It was also reported that Lawan had asked Senate Committee on Judiciary Chairman Opeyemi Bamidele to damage the Judiciary’s budget if the Justices refused to do his bidding.

The case is still pending, and no date for the verdict has been set.

On November 11, news outlets reported that the Court of Appeal’s Abuja Division reserved judgment in an appeal involving the All Progressives Congress’ Yobe North Senatorial District.

After hearing arguments from lawyers on Friday, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensen, presided over a three-member panel.

However, Machina was asked to resign for Lawan, but he refused, stating that he would not resign for the Senate President.

In the midst of the controversy, the APC named the Senate President as its senatorial candidate for Yobe North to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Machina, enraged by the development, went to court to demand restitution. Machina specifically sought the court in his action to proclaim him the APC’s validly elected senatorial candidate for the 2023 election.
