Aisha Buhari, the First Lady, has withdrawn the complaint against Aminu Adamu, a final-year student at the Federal University of Dutse.

Adamu, 24, was arrested by police in Dutse for reportedly making a disparaging message about the First Lady on his Twitter handle.

Adamu, who is studying Environmental Management, allegedly tweeted a picture of the first lady with the caption, “Mama is feeding fat on poor people’s money.”

He was arraigned on Tuesday, November 30, before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded to Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State, after nearly two weeks in captivity and claimed torture.

One of the witnesses scheduled to testify against the defendants was the First Lady.

However, the Prosecution Counsel, Fidelis Ogbobe, stated on Friday that the First Lady, as the mother of the nation, decided to withdraw the case against the accused after the involvement of well-meaning Nigerians.

He moved the motion for case withdrawal under Section 108 subsection 2(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
