The Nigerian Army is said to have stormed Obeagu Community in Ebonyi State’s Ishielu Local Government Area.

According to some community leaders who spoke to our correspondent on Monday morning, the military that raided the community about 5 a.m. had been firing randomly and allegedly destroying some houses.

The army were alleged to have arrived in town with ten Hilux vehicles and seven armored tanks, as well as over 100 military men.

It was unclear why the military had invaded the community, but no one had been reported dead thus far.
Only one woman was allegedly injured by a stray gunshot.

Confirming the invasion, a community leader and immediate past councillor of the community said, “We woke up this morning with military gunshots. As I am speaking everybody is on the run. Soldiers are shooting in all the communities. All the Eha-Amufu people that ran to our community after Fulani herdsmen sacked them are also on the run with residents.”

Another resident, Ogbuabor Sunday, informed our correspondent that the military arrived at the neighborhood while they were attending morning mass, a Catholic early morning prayer.

“I was in the church this early morning around around 5:30pm when military vehicles numbering over 30 including armored tanks rolled into the community. Shortly after they started shooting sporadically. None of the people who came to church this morning had gone home. I am answering this call inside the bush,” Ogbuabor said.

However, our journalist learned that the invading forces were questioning some of the arrested ladies and elderly people where the Indigenous People of Biafra camp was located in the village.

Remember that on October 13, 2022, armed herdsmen assaulted the community, killing one person, injuring two, and kidnapping three, for which the community paid millions in ransom.

Also, on March 29, 2021, armed herdsmen attacked the community and killed 21 individuals. Throughout the invasion, neither military nor police intervened in the roughly 12-hour-long assault.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, security agencies have yet to apprehend any of the attackers despite recovering one of the attackers’ phones during the invasion last year and handing it over to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo when he visited the town a week after the terrible attack.

Meanwhile, efforts to obtain a response from the Nigerian Army were futile since Major Jonathan Unuakhalu, Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 82DV, did not answer his calls or respond to text messages sent to his phone.
